Ever since childhood, I’ve been the skinny guy – the beanpole who stood out because of my freakishly tall stature and lanky frame.
It was an unsettling experience as a teenager walking into a junior hockey dressing room filled with muscular bodies, having zero confidence in my own.
One day, I walked into the showers after practice, an intimidating place for anyone who’s not confident in their body.
A few of the older players were in there. I hung up my towel and stepped in.
“Man, you have a real awkward-looking body, eh?”

I still remember the feeling like it was yesterday. I was totally exposed,and the captain had just put me in my place.
